What inside IR35 means for your day rate
A contract inside IR35 is treated like employment for tax. You are paid through an umbrella company or agency PAYE, with income tax and National Insurance deducted at source, so the headline day rate is not what reaches your account.
Inside IR35 roles still make sense at the right number: the rule of thumb is that an inside rate needs to be roughly 20 to 25 percent higher to match the take home of an equivalent outside IR35 contract. Check the day rate benchmarks for your skill before accepting one.
